PROJECTS IN NEPAL:
WEAWER WORKSHOP 2022
The village of Manetar close to Tamku Khanigaon was moved 5 years ago due to a flood that swept it away. Today it has been rebuilt on land made available by the government. The friends of Mani per il Nepal were asked to help build a small factory that would be useful for the women of the village. These women spin and weave nettles and want to work together in a single building, sheltered from the difficult weather. According to the final estimate from january 2022 the global cost should amount to $ 40,000 and should be completed by june 2022, that is before the monsoon starts. The village's only income comes from this particular weaving procedure.
We would like to help collect donations to make this project a reality, that is to ameliorate the life of these women and to keep this particular weaving art alive.
If you wish to help you can donate to CuorEmani with the specification “weaver project”.
COVID-19 EMERGENCY
Because of the recent emergency situation caused by the CORONA VIRUS and the relative lockdown, thousands of people have lost their jobs in Kathmandu and are dependent on government emergency aid measures, which are certainly insufficient especially for emergency health care issues. Through our local contacts at the moment we are providing emergency financial support to those families who are in a health care emergency situation or are in financial need in order to restart their activities.
EARTHQUAKE 2015
Since the severe earthquake that took place in 2015 in the Kathmandu Valley and caused great damage,
we have been supporting the Yamuna children's home, a paper mill and a swiss-nepali family.
YAMUNA CHILDREN’S HOME
The orphanage Yamuna children's home takes care of 31 needy children, in particular some who lost their homes during the earthquake of 2015 and sometimes even the family because the whole village they come from was destroyed. Yamuna offers them a home, an education and organized medical assistance. We support them since 2016 with annual financial grants and the sponsorship of 10 children .
2023
In June 2023 we visited the new Children’s home where the children are living now and helped with intern furniture and office organization.
2022
Incredibly, thanks to the tireless work of our friends of Mani per il Nepal, the construction works could proceed throughout the difficult past year, that once more has been characterized by the pandemia and repeated lockdowns.
April 2022 we have been visiting the Yamuna Children’s home after 3 years and we have been able to ascertain that the new building is in the final construction phase, the kids should be able to move in after mid July. The building is very well made, the wardrobes, the beds are under construction, the sanitary ware and the kitchen should be delivered in the coming weeks.
In the building there will be place for 40 kids plus the director and his family, there will be a guest room with access for disabled persons, a room which could be used also for volunteers who might want to come for a couple of weeks.
Furthermore there is a big office room and a prayer room that we want to help decorate.
We will continue to support Yamuna with children sponsorship and financial aid for medical emergencies.
If you want to help you can donate specifying “Yamuna”.2019
Three years after the immediate survival issues, we started to focus on the sustainability and selfmaintenance of the project. Since it had come to our attention that the rent of the home and land of the Yamuna’s institution is increasing by 10% every year, discussing with the director Mr. Serki, we came to the conclusion that the most reasonable and sustainable thing to do would have been to buy a piece of land, where to build a sustainable house for the children living in the Yamuna children’s home. Since also the prices of the land are increasing immensly every year, the fundraising for the purchase of a piece of land with its own water well has been our first priority.
2021
January 2021 thank to the generous collaboration of all our donors we have been able to pay the last installment for the land.
2020
In February 2020, we were able to secure the land of 254 m2 (70,000 USD), although we still have to make the last downpayment of 15.000 USD. The land is not far from the house, where the kids live at the moment, it will be possible to build a more appropriate house for the growing kids, make a vegetable garden and eventually have a cow for milk and some chickens, so that the Yamuna children’s home may become more indipendent, from the food point of view as well. The local engineer we hired completed the project, set the estimate of the construction costs and submitted the permit request.
March 2020: the situation created by the COVID pandemic has meant that the authorizations for building permits have been suspended. In fact, the administration offices have undergone a prolonged closure due to the lockdown.
October 2020
At the moment, the governement offices have opened again, the taxes for the building permits have been paid and they could be granted anytime soon.
PAPER MILL
The paper mill of Satya and a local co-owner was completely destroyed during the 2015 earthquake. This also lost jobs. We provided financial support to help rebuild the paper mill and get the villagers back to work.
SATYA’S FAMILY
We support the family of Satya, a Ticinese living in Nepal, so that he can rebuild his existence
after the devastating earthquake of 2015. He is also co-owner of the local paper mill that we also support.
